"The Triax met all my needs and then some for a HRM system to help manage my exercise and keep up with workouts on the road.
The Triax HRM/SDM has be AWESOME! I needed a regular running watch with lap/split and interval functions and wanted a HRM to help battle with headaches I get from working out too hard/too long on some days. I also wanted a few alarms, to make an all-in-one watch, so I wouldn't have to switch watches between working out and regular activities. The Triax fits the bill and then some!
The HRM is accurate (well, as accurate as I can tell - I've compared it to several HRMs on gym machines, and they are all aways within 1 BPM of each other), comfortable, and easy to use. It's really helped me feel like I'm getting a decent workout with out going overboard, so no more headaches.
The SDM was a nice extra perk, so now I don't have to map all my runs outside using online maps to figure out distance anymore. I also don't have to do "homework" when going on the road to map out runs (and do guesswork on safety of the areas those runs go through). When traveling, I can run where it feels safe and just look at the watch to see how far I've gone. I also like having the pedometer because I can change the distance I want to go in real time (versus having to guess distances as I go if I want to go shorter/longer based on a pre-planned run). It's also nice to be able to count steps whenever I want, although I don't really do that often.
The computer link is great. That was easy to figure out and I really enjoy looking at my data after workouts and then the summary data. That keeps me MOTIVATED.
The software isn't sexy, but it's has a good deal of functionality. I have enjoyed having several different pre-planned workouts that I can download to the watch so I don't have to "think" during the week *and* keep up the variety. I've just started playing with build-your-own workout, and so far I'm loving that too!
The heart rate strap seems very comfortable. It's my first HRM, though so I don't have experience for comparison. I did break the strap already (I've had it about 2 months), and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement (I may make a homemade fix if I don't find something soon). It does fit nicely in the elastic of my sports bra, so that's been lucky for me, but I don't know what the guys would do in the same situation.
Seven alarms probably is overkill for most, but I love having the flexibility and not be burdened by re-setting alarms every week, as I need different alarms for weekends and week days.
My only 'complaint' with the Triax was that it was a little hard to figure out how to use, but once I figured it out it is cake! There's a LOT of functionality under this hood, and so it's understandable that it takes a little tinkering to figure out how to access it all. The manual is good, I'm just hasty and don't like reading manuals; when I did it was pretty easy to figure out.
For a female, it is a large watch. I happen to appreciate that because I like to see the time easily (the display is very easy to read), but I know some females prefer smaller faces. It would be great if Nike offered a Triax Elite in a smaller form for the ladies (I'd love it in different colors too)."
