EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE AND LIGHTWEIGHTThe Nike Free 4.0 Women's Running Shoe is more flexible than the Nike Free Run+ 3 and more supportive than the Nike Free 3.0. Like those styles, it combines the feel of barefoot running with cushioning, traction and underfoot protection.Unique LacingThe asymmetrical lacing system reduces pressure for enhanced comfort.Seamless UpperThe seamless upper offers lightweight support where you need it. It features a laser-perforated design for a supportive, skin-like fit that moves with each stride.FlexibilityDeep flex grooves along the length and width of the outsole enhance flexibility and help maintain stability for a more natural stride. To dramatically reduce the shoe's overall weight, the low-profile midsole doubles as an outsole.Supportive FitA stretchy mesh inner sleeve delivers a sock-like fit that hugs the foot, yet still allows for easy on and off. The minimalistic, molded sockliner mimics the curves of the foot, delivering support and a great fit.OriginsAfter learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university's golf course, three of Nike's most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, simulating bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion. The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot's natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.More BenefitsReflective Swoosh design trademark for enhanced visibility in low lightSolid rubber pods under the medial toe for durability and tractionWaffle outsole for traction, durability and a more neutral, efficient toe-offProduct DetailsWeight: 6.7 ounces (women's size 8)

"Make sure you order a 1/2 size to a full size larger than you'd normally get! My first pair of nikes were Fitso ones and i got an 11 but they ran a bit big so for these i ordered a 10.5. Should've gotten an 11 as they're a bit snug but i'm losing weight and i'm sure my feet will shrink. By far the most comfortable shoes i own. Definitely good for long running/ walking."

"I have been a sprinter for 3 years now, and have done both cross country and track. Track this year is starting up in only 3 days, and I always like to get new shoes to start off a good beginning. These shoes are amazingly comfortable, and fit my feet perfectly. I would totally recommend this shoe to someone because of it's appearance, fit, durability, and overall just how it makes me want to run when I put them on."

"I've done lots of running and I more and more amazed of the comfort and proper foot placement it keeps. Great midfoot strike comfort, no slipage from side to side, amazing stabilization, no rolling, and yet very light. I was amazed at the gripage it has off road and on slipery rocks."

"I'll be honest. I was very hesitate when purchasing the new Nike Frees. I've own the first and second generation and I was sad when I had to depart with my Frees 2. The Nike Free 2 was my favorite and was so far the best running shoes I've ever had and I was very sad that it was discontinued unless I were to customize it- and that was too expensive for me.
Anyway.. I really didn't know what version of the Frees I wanted.. the 3, 4, or 5?.. I went into the Nike store and spoke to someone- tried the different versions.. and I ended up with the 4s. I've been running for years and I've had experience with the Frees. It's key to always wear a half a size bigger if you are a runner because your feet will swell throughout your run.. but I always stick to my true size, 7.5, and I've never had any issues... until now. The 4s fit well when I'm not running, but when I run.. it actually bruise my toe and it hurt my feet at the end of my run. I've exchanged the shoe for a size 8 so it can be more comfortable.. Overall it's a pretty good shoe, but I was really disappointed on how the shoe sizes are not consistent. I would recommend a half a size bigger than what you usually would wear."

"The shoe looks so good. The material can get dirty easy. And defiantly get a size bigger. I have a wide foot kinda. I work in these shoes and they don't hurt me as bad at the end of the day as my other nikes did."

"These are great shoes! Put them on and ran a quick 2 miles. They felt fabulous. I have high arches and narrow feet. I normally wear an 8 in Nikes, and I had to buy an 8 1/2. Fit perfect. Can't wait for my run in the morning :)"

"A Nike Free lover, I decided to go with the 4.0 sole for something more minimalist but more durable, since my friend had the 3.0 sole and wore them out in 2 weeks. They are good because: they are comfortable; good colorways; easy to slip on and off; slightly waterproof. They aren't so good because: they aren't very breathable; they run small and narrow; the width isn't adjustable because of one tab; wears down quickly."

"I have been Running for just about 6 years now! 7- 15 miles four times a week. Nike is the only shoe I can wear! First off I will say I buy 4 pairs each time I get new runners, because I run down the soles so fast. Now I love the Nike Free Run+ 2! It’s my favorite shoe! I ran around all last week going to every store buying all the size 8’s they had NO JOKE… The reason being Nike free 4.0! Sucks! They changed the shoe entirely! Fist the treading on the bottom is so different that you don’t have as much flexibility! It also ends up making pressure points that can turn into a bruise or end up hurting parts of your feet. Second the shoes tongue is much too thick putting even more pressure on certain points! Also the Tongue is separate/detached so that plus how thick the tongue is makes for a HUGE discomfort on the seam!! All in All I can’t believe how much they changed the shoe for the worse. =("

"Feels like I'm not wearing shoes since they are so light weight and they mold to my feet. My feet are really narrow so if they run narrow it doesnt feel like it to me since i still have room in them. Cushy, flexible, light weight, they are quite when walking and they look good. I normally wear a 9 and had to get a 9.5 so they run small."

Don't Wear These Without Socks

"I decided to wear these without socks and they gave me the worst painful blisters I've ever had -- just terrible! I ended up taking them off and walking barefoot for the last mile. Thin socks are best -- these are really cute shoes and they are comfortable but they don't compare with the lunarglides which in my opinion are so much more comfy. No rubbing or chafing at all with those. You need to try them and choose which you like best -- I love Nike -- most everything they do is awesome!"

"This is my 3rd pair of Nike Free shoes (all have been different models). I keep coming back for the comfort, style and ability to take them from the track to the treadmill to circuit training even the airport (and I'm not a sneakers outside the gym kind of girl). These are firmer than the past two pairs I have (2.0 & 3.0) and run a bit more narrow through the toe and less flexible overall. It's not my favorite fit of all the Frees but they are still really great and work well for me. I love the mellow purple/dark grey combo as it is low key but not boring. I'm sure there are a lot more Nike Frees in my future."

"I've had many versions of the Frees and love them overall. This shoe does kind of cut into your instep, though, right across the middle top of your foot. Might explain the pain some other commenters are feeling. I wouldn't recommend these to folks with a high instep. On the plus side, they have a nice sturdy feel for such a light shoe, and the flexibility is unbelievable."

"a lady at a baseball game had these shoes on and it was like love at first sight. she took them off and showed me and my mom how light and fexible they are. it was like no other tennis shoe i had ever seen! they can seriously flex in half but still have a TON of support (especially for my crazy arches). it feels like your walking in socks. you will probably not want to guess on your size in this case because they do seem to run a bit low. i have seen earlier comments about how narrow they are. for me that is perfect, but i do have narrow feet. But my mom said they felt perfect and she has wider feet. Overall this is a great product. If you excercise on a regualr basis i would say this would be the perfect shoe for you!"

"I own a pair of the Nike Free Run 1 and the Nike Free Run 2 and love them both for short runs or sprints. This shoe, however, I DO NOT LIKE at all! I purchased a pair and could only wear them for half a day. They fit VERY NARROW and I felt like the shoes were cutting off circulation to my toes from the forefoot. My feet were hurting so badly that I had to leave work to go return the shoes. I also wore very thin running socks with these shoes. Because my feet hurt so badly, I couldn't even wear them long enough to test out a run in them.
I am really disappointed because the colorways that this shoe came out in are very cute. I love the contrast of a neutral color with splashes of vibrant colors. Thus, this shoe gets two stars (rather than one)."

These shoes run 1/2 to whole size small...I had to get a half size larger for them to fit comfortable. In my regular size, while they still technically "fit" they were too tight in places and the guy at the Nike store said they run small and to try a larger size...that worked great...so maybe try a different size :)
